Speaker C:That's it.
Speaker B:Well, now we know.
Speaker B:Now we know why.
Speaker B:There was a cheap plug.
Speaker C:That's Cheap plug.
Speaker C:That's a free plug.
Speaker B:That's the best kind.
Speaker C:That's right.
Speaker C:Yeah, that's right.
Speaker A:I got a plug.
Speaker A:I'll call him right now.
Speaker A:What are you doing?
Speaker C:So we're going to do things a little differently this week.
Speaker C:Bill Frey, of course, is the graduate from the University of South Carolina where he has graduated with a degree in broadcast journalism.
Speaker C:Bill, did you get the ring?
Speaker A:Bill, did you get the ring?
Speaker D:There it is.
Speaker D:There you go.
Speaker C:Bill is going to interview us about Coastal Comic Con.
Speaker C:Zach and I, from the perspective of being participants and let's just be honest, the talent and Brock the coordinator.
Speaker C:Brock, did anybody report to you just how offended they were by the fact that Zach and I referred to us as the talent at the Comic Con?
Speaker C:Anybody say anything?
Speaker B:No.
Speaker B:So apparently you did a very excellent job in not upsetting or pissing anyone off.
Speaker C:You know what?
Speaker A:I can think of one individual that next time he's going to get it.
Speaker C:Let me.
Speaker C:Let me tell you.
Speaker C:Let me tell you that Chick Fil a cow was almost professional.
Speaker A:So if he didn't pray about it.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Barrett would have offended him.
Speaker C:I'll just.
Speaker C:I'll just start.
Speaker C:When.
Speaker C:When we went to the.
Speaker C:The pre party event over at the brewery, at one point, there was nobody around.
Speaker C:And I know that mascots can't talk.
Speaker C:I know that mascots are supposed to keep quiet.
Speaker C:They're not supposed to say anything.
Speaker C:I walked over to the Chick Fil a cow with Heather.
Speaker C:I'm sorry, Elizabeth, Sawyer and.
Speaker C:And the rest of the Chick Fil a crew.
Speaker C:I walked over to the Chick Fil a cow and I said, hey, there's nobody around.
Speaker C:You can go ahead and talk to me.
Speaker C:He giggled.
Speaker C:I heard him audibly.
Speaker C:I heard him giggle and I immediately jumped on it.
Speaker C:I said, I heard the cat crack.
Speaker A:The 19 year old.
Speaker C:Yeah, you know, whatever.
Speaker C:But for the rest of the evening that we were there, I was just nagging him.
Speaker C:I was trying to get him to talk.
Speaker C:I was trying.
Speaker C:And then I was trying to talk her.
Speaker C:Elizabeth, the chick fil a coordinator.
Speaker C:I was trying to talk her into allowing me to put on the costume, but to be the talking chick fil a cow.
Speaker C:So, like, when people would come up and take pictures of me, I'd be like, yeah, kid, you smell what is.
Speaker A:I was really waiting for her to be like, you understand that he's being punished, right?
Speaker D:He says, you remind me of.
Speaker A:And this is the punishment.
Speaker D:You remind me of those people that mess with, like, the guards in the.
Speaker D:In the uk just messing with them the whole time.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yep.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker A:Bit by the horse.
Speaker C:Zach and me were audience to how I cope with crowds, in that I will.
Speaker C:I will make observational jokes about virtually everything.
Speaker C:I mean, like, at several times during the week, to a fault, to our waitress.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:Almost everybody we interacted with, either Zach or me, had to tell them, please just ignore him.
Speaker C:Just ignore that.
Speaker A:I never said that.
Speaker C:Okay.
Speaker C:A me.
Speaker C:A me constantly was telling people.
Speaker A:I laughed and said, Barry going.
Speaker C:So it was probably better that we didn't get to have dinner with Ross and Matthew Waterson, because that probably would have not gone well for me.
Speaker C:So, Bill, what questions?
Speaker C:Having not attended the Coastal Comic Con, what questions do you have?
Speaker D:Well, first I want to know what was the crowd like?
Speaker D:This was the.
Speaker D:Was this the first one at Wilmington?
Speaker D:This was the first one.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker C:I'll let Brock take it.
Speaker D:Two seconds.
Speaker C:Yeah, there you go.
Speaker D:Second time.
Speaker D:How's the crowd compared to the Soda City one?
Speaker B:The crowd for this event is smaller.
Speaker B:Wilmington's a smaller market than Columbia.
Speaker B:And if it's not fair to compare the most recent Coastal with the most recent Soda City, because we have, you know, seven plus year head start.
Speaker B:But I will say that when we compared year one of Coastal with a comparable year in Columbia, that it was like year four or so before we kind of hit that number.
Speaker B:We had a slight contraction, I would say, in overall attendance this year, trying to figure out why.
Speaker B:You know, I will say that Wilmington has been blessed, if you want to call it that, with some extreme winter weather this year.
Speaker B:They've had at least two good snowfalls, one kind of followed by a significant amount of ice.
Speaker B:And so the Saturday when we kicked off, I mean, the weather that day, and I don't know if you boys stepped outside at all, me was just flat out gorgeous.
Speaker B:That day, it really was.
Speaker B:And so I suspect cabin fever at some point had kicked in to that community.
Speaker B:And they just decided, you know what, we're going to go outside and we're going to do beachy things or outdoorsy things, parks, walk downtown.
Speaker B:Don't mistake that as saying that the crowd wasn't there because we had over 5,000 people that we know that unique people that showed up.
Speaker B:And the turnstile number was like 6,800.
Speaker B:So from a foot perspective, the crowd showed up.
Speaker B:But in talking to some other vendors, they said that they've been noticing that crowds have gotten a little bit smaller to start out, and they started noticing this sometime around August of September, maybe of last year.
Speaker B:And so I suspect a lot of it has to do with the political climate and leading up to the elections where people didn't know what the hell was gonna happen.
Speaker B:And then we got what did happen and then, which was kind of, I guess, okay until mid January.
Speaker B:And then depending on your perspective, either all hell broke loose or you got what you paid for.
Speaker B:I don't know which.
Speaker B:But so, you know, people have all sorts of reasons.
Speaker B:It's certainly what from, you know, the word was out there.
Speaker B:We advertise, we're on Facebook, we're on digital, we do streaming ads, we do YouTube.
Speaker B:We, you know, do traditional linear television.
Speaker B:We got the word out there.
Speaker B:You know, it just had a slight little pullback, but, you know, it's okay.
Speaker B:It took us, you know, nine, nine tries in Columbia before we finally broke that 10,000 person ceiling.
Speaker B:And Wilmington, you know, it can get there.
Speaker B:It just, you know, it's just going to take some time.
Speaker B:We're okay.
Speaker D:Yeah.
Speaker B:You know, people ask me, like, how'd the show go?
Speaker B:The word, the word I've been using is decent.
Speaker B:It wasn't great, but it wasn't bad.
Speaker C:It was above.
Speaker C:I can, I can speak to at least some of the visual materials that I, that I saw, because when we first arrived and came and set up and hung out with you for a little while on Friday, we went out, got lunch, and three of the spots that we went and looked at, you know, as we were, as we were going along, we there, we saw.
Speaker C:We saw the coastal Carolina, the coastal Comic Con posters in the windows.
Speaker C:We saw.
Speaker C:We saw them in several places.
Speaker C:So someone did their due diligence in trying to get that information out there.
Speaker C:We saw it.
Speaker C:We saw it everywhere.
Speaker C:In fact, there were people in our hotel that were either there as vendors or they were in town for the con because I Talked to them when I was sitting down there at eating, you know, a muffin or whatever.
Speaker C:So that isn't a euphemism or a metaphor.
Speaker C:Sorry, moving on.
Speaker D:Yeah, no, well, with the crowd, I mean, I'm wondering.
Speaker D:Oh, go ahead.
Speaker A:I was gonna say my experience with the amount of people that were there, I thought it was almost perfect to let us escape a little bit and go for one.
Speaker A:This is the first time I've truly gotten to get with vendors and buy some stuff and talk to vendors and get some of their stories as well as it was also good to get away and talk to the guests that were there for a minute, whether interview or not.
Speaker A:Getting to talk with Ross and Matt, Matthew Watterson and anyone else who was there, that was, that was really good.
Speaker A:I thought it was a awesome, steady pace of people and they did awesome, awesome cosplays, I think.
Speaker A:I think that with the mass of it, you kind of get lost sometimes.
Speaker A:It's so the city.
Speaker A:Just because they're all coming at you.
Speaker A:This one, I got to appreciate everyone that kind of came by and I was like, yo, that is, that's sick.
Speaker A:It was.
Speaker A:I thought it was perfect, honestly.
Speaker B:You know, Zach, there's.
Speaker B:There's not necessarily anything wrong with a small to medium sized show.
Speaker B:I've been to.
Speaker B:I've been to New York Comic Con a couple of times.
Speaker B:I've been to megacon.
Speaker B:I've been to shows in Chicago and New Orleans, you know, when wizard was kind of at their peak.
Speaker B:And you know, shows that attract 100,000 plus unique visitors.
Speaker B:I've been in some of the worst experiences have been when it's so packed that you literally cannot move.
Speaker B:Like, there was one time I was down in Orlando and it was just me and the lines moving through the aisles.
Speaker B:And you know, when you have a hundred thousand plus people over the course of two or three days or maybe four, I don't know how long megacon is now, but there's obviously not much room.
Speaker B:Like, I'm literally standing in an aisle and people are just not moving.
Speaker B:And I'm like, this is a miserable experience.
Speaker B:And for the last two or three hours before I took a cab to the airport to catch my flight back home, I literally went and sat behind a table in a friend of mine's booth, Chris Foss.
Speaker B:But not that that particularly matters as much, but it was just.
Speaker B:I'm just like, this is not what I signed up for.
Speaker B:And if I had paid to go, which I didn't, I would have been pissed because that's like, you know, I don't want to pay.
Speaker B:I mean, if you go to Disney and you pay, you know, you're gonna stand in line for a little while before you ride rides.
Speaker B:That's expected.
Speaker B:That's not what I expect at a major event.
Speaker B:And it was just awful.
Speaker B:And I'm like, this is not what we want.
Speaker B:So the fact that it was.
Speaker B:It was steady.
Speaker B:I'll give you that.
Speaker B:It was steady on Saturday and Sunday.
Speaker B:Sundays are really good in Wilmington.
Speaker A:It's.
Speaker B:Sundays are really steady and strong, strong days.
Speaker B:Sometimes we get a little off in Columbia on Sundays.
Speaker B:I don't know why yet, but, you know, is what it is.
Speaker B:But you're right there.
Speaker B:There is something to be said for actually having a little bit of flexibility and a little bit of time where you can go and see the rest of the event versus being stuck behind your table doing God's work.
Speaker B:Working for me.
Speaker A:We had.
Speaker A:We had.
Speaker A:We had a cosplayer who kind of just posted up across from us for both days.
Speaker A:And I told Barrett, I said, if you knew who they were, like, if we told you who they were, would you know who they are?
Speaker C:And Barrett's like, no clue.
Speaker A:So we found out who it was.
Speaker A:It was someone cosplay.
Speaker A:Cosplayed, as in, it was a fantastic cosplay.
Speaker A:This person was getting just as much selfies.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker A:Like, interactions.
Speaker B:Like, the letter.
Speaker B:The letter in.
Speaker A:It's somebody called in from what show?
Speaker C:I don't remember.
Speaker C:I don't remember.
Speaker C:But.
Speaker C:But their cost.
Speaker C:Their.
Speaker C:Their cosplay costume was fantastic.
Speaker C:I mean, it was.
Speaker C:It was.
Speaker A:Had wings that would go up, and, like, everyone who came in that was anime, something stopped and was like, holy shit.
Speaker A:At this person.
Speaker A:Like, can I get a picture?
Speaker C:Yeah, the whole time.
Speaker C:And, like, I would have been Joe's nuts.
Speaker A:We were like, who is this?
Speaker C:At one point, I actually considered asking if that wanted.
Speaker C:Wanting to ask if they would come over and stand at our table, and we'll just.
Speaker C:We'll just charge a dollar per selfie.
Speaker C:You know, she'll.
Speaker C:She can get a cut.
Speaker C:She can get 50 cents.
Speaker C:We'll get 50 cents.
Speaker C:You know, whatever.
Speaker A:Tried to pitch Ras Marquandin sitting at our booth for, like, 30 minutes.
Speaker C:He didn't take the deal.
Speaker C:Huh?
Speaker C:He was probably pretty comfortable behind his table.
Speaker A:At the end of the day, he probably would.
Speaker A:You know, it's slow.
Speaker A:Let's go sit at your booth.
Speaker D:And that, too.
Speaker D:Like, what kind of actors showed up this time around?
Speaker D:Like, that came out of Wilmington.
Speaker C:Well, Ross Marquand who, of course, is Aaron from the Walking Dead.
Speaker C:He is Red Skull from the Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame.
Speaker C:We also had Cal Dodd, of course, is the voice of Wolverine.
Speaker C:For.
Speaker C:For decades, he's been the voice of Wolverine.
Speaker C:Matthew Wood, of course, he's.
Speaker C:He is sound engineer as well as voice artist for a number of the characters in the Star wars franchise.
Speaker A:He's the Doom Slayer.
Speaker C:Yeah, he's Doom Slayer of many.
Speaker C:And Sam Witwer, who was.
Speaker A:I beat a valve last night, and I'll watch the credits go by, and I was like, there he is.
Speaker A:Did it say.
Speaker C:Did it say what Matthew Watterson was in the game?
Speaker A:None of them.
Speaker A:None of them.
Speaker A:Even the main characters, none of them had the attributed character.
Speaker C:Matthew Watterson, of course, he was back as the.
Speaker C:He is the voice of Magneto.
Speaker C:And I know that X Men 97 Season 2 is going to be coming out at some point between now and Christmas, I think.
Speaker C:They haven't actually announced a date, but they said it would be this year.
Speaker C:But Matthew Watterson was fantastic.
Speaker C:Caitlin Roebruck was absolute sweetheart.
Speaker C:I got to speak with her for a couple minutes, but she did a.
Speaker A:Video for my daughter.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker A:As Minnie Mouse.
Speaker A:Very congratulating her for being a big sister to twins and threw in a signed bit of signed picture.
Speaker A:I was like, dude, I blew my daughter's mind.
Speaker A:The smile is still on her face, right?
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:And Sergeant Slaughter, who.
Speaker C:We had a debate about Sergeant Slaughter because we didn't get a chance to talk to him.
Speaker C:We tried.
Speaker C:We tried on several occasions, but his handler was just as difficult as Sam Witworth's.
Speaker C:And nicer.
Speaker C:He was much nicer.
Speaker C:He was so much nicer.
Speaker A:Never kind of difficult.
Speaker A:Much nicer.
Speaker C:But Sergeant Slaughter, you know, having never seen him in person, we had a debate as to whether or not his chin was real, as to whether or not maybe there was some plastic surgery at some point to make it scratch his nose with that chin pronounced.
Speaker C:Yeah, it was.
Speaker C:It stands out.
Speaker C:But turns out, at least according to artificial intelligence and every.
Speaker C:Every potential web search we did, his chin is 100% real.
Speaker A:Was convinced that his chin wasn't real.
Speaker A:I said, well, he's like 80 and his chin was already big.
Speaker A:Just going to kind of go with.
Speaker C:It all before we started recording, I told Bill.
Speaker C:I was like.
Speaker C:I was like, he must just walk around like this all the time.
Speaker D:You'd have to train it.
Speaker C:I know that's good for audio, but.
Speaker C:But I feel like he's.
Speaker C:He had his chin out.
Speaker C:He sleeps with his chin Out.
Speaker A:But you want to talk to him, you have to break it.
Speaker C:At one point, I saw him interacting with a kid that was very excited to see him.
Speaker C:The kid.
Speaker C:I don't remember what the maneuver was.
Speaker A:Where are you?
Speaker A:Where are you?
Speaker C:He couldn't see the kid past his chin.
Speaker C:That's what you're suggesting, Zach, Go ahead.
Speaker B:The mistake that you amateurs made.
Speaker C:Here we go.
Speaker B:Was that.
Speaker B:Well, I'm gonna tell you.
Speaker B:That way you don't make the same mistake twice.
Speaker A:Please do.
Speaker B:Well, the first mistake you made was deleting all your previous footage.
Speaker B:And the second mistake you made.
Speaker B:I'm never gonna let you live that down.
Speaker B:Because of course, I wake up at 5:30 and I.
Speaker B:And I do what all good Americans do.
Speaker B:I look on Facebook and I see this clown who's in the top frame of my phone talking about how all the content that he had backed up on his server was gone.
Speaker B:And then of course, what I do, I send you.
Speaker A:I was just as pissed.
Speaker A:I was just.
Speaker C:I said.
Speaker B:I sent him a text.
Speaker B:I said, what the did you do?
Speaker B:And he's just like, oh, great.
Speaker B:Now Brock's texting me.
Speaker B:It was like, what is like 5:30 in the morning or something like that?
Speaker B:Or was it in the afternoon?
Speaker B:I don't know.
Speaker C:It was a Saturday.
Speaker C:It was a Saturday.
Speaker C:I think it was a Saturday, 10am show.
Speaker C:Because anyways, I was just like, you.
Speaker B:Got to be kidding me.
Speaker B:Like, I want to use this content too.
Speaker B:And you deleted it all.
Speaker A:You saw how silent I was.
Speaker A:I just shook my head like, what the.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:Anyways, Michael Bell.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker B:Your other mistake was if you wanted to get interview with these people, just come and ask me and I'll go and make it happen.
Speaker B:Because a lot of times and people.
Speaker A:Don'T know this, they haven't even throw that out there.
Speaker A:Come on, Brock.
Speaker A:You're running around like Sonic.
Speaker A:We just lose streak.
Speaker B:It doesn't matter.
Speaker B:It doesn't matter.
Speaker B:My goal is, yes, when we're running.
Speaker B:No, I do not run around like Sonic.
Speaker B:I'm not that fast.
Speaker A:Pretty fast.
Speaker B:Our goal, obviously, is to put on a good event and make the event flow and be successful.
Speaker B:And part of the responsibilities that I take on is to do a lot of that, a lot of the prepping up front so that when the event happens, hopefully if I were to just disappear, it still executes.
Speaker B:Now, would it.
Speaker B:Would there be bumps in the road?
Speaker B:Yes, of course, because not patting myself on the back, but I probably know more than anybody else about that event that's there Just a nature from, from basically building it from the ground up.
Speaker B:I mean, a carpenter knows how to build a house, right?
Speaker C:No, we see it for sure.
Speaker B:Well, the point is, a lot of times in these contracts, they have media obligations where they.
Speaker B:We could say you do two.
Speaker B:They say prearranged interviews, but you can't prearrange an in person interview.
Speaker B:So if you want to interview these people, I can say, hey, I've got these group of podcasters that do a lot of work for us.
Speaker B:They help out with us.
Speaker B:We've, we've become buddies.
Speaker B:They'd like to do an interview, you know, five, five or so minutes.
Speaker B:And if they bucket, I'll say, well, you know, actually it's in your contract.
Speaker A:So I know one guy will check that.
Speaker B:Well, let him check it.
Speaker B:Let him check it.
Speaker A:I know, I know exactly.
Speaker A:If you bring Sam Witwer back, I know exactly.
Speaker A:I'm gonna be like, this is Brock.
Speaker A:Talk to us.
Speaker B:Well, I'm not worried about that because, because the, the, the, the guy that his, his, his guy, his name's Daim.
Speaker B:Like we've got each other figured out.
Speaker B:So he's cool.
Speaker B:We, we can make that happen.
Speaker B:That won't be a problem.
Speaker A:I want more than the interview.
Speaker A:If you say he's cool, I want to see the cool side of you.
Speaker B:Got it.
Speaker B:When he's working, he's kind of working.
Speaker B:But, you know, you just, you just bring him, bring him a new set of pearls to go with his existing sets and you'll slide right in.
Speaker C:There we go.
Speaker C:Well, there you go.
Speaker A:Hold on.
Speaker C:I knew it was eventually going to get to that.
Speaker C:I knew it was going to go there at some point.
Speaker C:That's all right.
Speaker B:Clutch the pearls.
Speaker C:Clutch the pearls.
Speaker C:I will say, to give him credit, he does exactly what a handler should do.
Speaker B:No, he's very good.
Speaker C:The guy that he's working for.
Speaker B:He's very good.
Speaker B:I'll give him all the credit in the world.
Speaker B:He, he is busy.
Speaker B:When he's on, he's on.
Speaker C:Yeah, I didn't.
Speaker C:I don't think in all the time that we stood there, you know, watching or waiting or whatever, I don't think I saw a single person get past him without, you know, making sure that he knew exactly what they were there for.
Speaker C:Are they for.
Speaker C:There for signatures?
Speaker C:Are they there to just talk to him?
Speaker C:Are they there to take pictures with him?
Speaker C:He had it all handled, like, very professional.
Speaker A:He was.
Speaker A:And we do have video evidence, though, of us setting up everything and talking to Matthew Wood and having Sam Witwer kind of just.
Speaker C:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker C:Witward definitely looked over Wood's shoulder as we're interviewing.
Speaker C:As we're interviewing.
Speaker C:And it was like, you saw the expression on his face.
Speaker C:He's just like, I wish I was doing that.
Speaker C:You know?
Speaker A:Definitely.
Speaker A:Like a hint of like, I guess they're going to come my way.
Speaker A:I knew there's only one guy that was in the way.
Speaker A:You would love to have done it.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:And we'll get it.
Speaker C:We'll get him sometime.
Speaker B:You'll get it.
Speaker A:You'll get it.
Speaker B:You'll get it.
Speaker A:I love Sam Witward.
Speaker C:I love the two of them.
Speaker C:Wood, Wood and Witward doing their panel together is so good because every time it's so many stories that they tell between the two of them.
Speaker C:I mean, like, like they have their own individual stories, but it's when they're, when it's when they are cohesive and they are, they're either working together or they're telling the same story.
Speaker C:And you can just tell that.
Speaker C:Like they have this ability to tell.
Speaker C:They're.
Speaker C:They're fantastic storytellers.
Speaker C:And the fact that they, they even have lucasarts in their ear when it comes to making sure that the stories are keeping with canon.
Speaker C:They're amazing, the two of them.
Speaker A:When I had a one on one with Matthew Wood and I was like, I was like, I don't have Star wars questions.
Speaker A:He looked at me like, really?
Speaker A:And I was like, I have There Will Be Blood questions.
Speaker A:He like basically just shook me, like, thank you.
Speaker A:As much as he loves doors, he's like, please ask me.
Speaker B:And he.
Speaker A:We talked, I think for like 30 straight minutes, just about.
Speaker A:There Will Be Blood.
Speaker A:You know, Paul Thomas Anderson, how that like, the man has never.
Speaker A:He's worked there.
Speaker A:We figured this out through the interview part.
Speaker A:He's worked on every movie you've ever seen.
Speaker C:Pretty much.
Speaker A:I was like, have you?
Speaker A:I was like, you ever seen the movie Fanboys?
Speaker A:He goes, I worked on it.
Speaker A:I was like, no shit, of course you.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker B:Well, I'll give you a couple of.
Speaker B:A couple little cool insights which will probably be.
Speaker B:I don't know if it's old news or not, but he had to catch an early flight to leave the show early because he had to be back in, I guess, the studio at the crack of dawn on Monday morning because he's working on Dun Dun Dun Dun.
Speaker B:The Mandalorian movie.
Speaker B:Yeah, yeah, the Mandalorian movie.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker B:So he's working on that.
Speaker B:And also I'm actually going out of town starting Tomorrow.
Speaker B:And it's a good thing because this doesn't air till a couple of weeks from now.
Speaker B:I'll be back by then.
Speaker B:But we're actually going to San Francisco for a few days with some friends and I've got his number and he's like, when you land, call me and we can go out and get a drink or something.
Speaker B:So there's a greater than good chance I'll be hanging out with him for a little bit over this upcoming weekend.
Speaker C:I'm expecting a FaceTime.
Speaker A:He's so, so nice.
Speaker B:He really is.
Speaker B:He's very down to earth, very easy to talk to.
Speaker B:Sam's a little different.
Speaker A:Well, he's a little jagged.
Speaker A:Kind of has like a.
Speaker A:Just knows what he's doing.
Speaker C:Yeah, I think, I think Sam is a little bit more professional.
Speaker C:Wood has been around in the business for long enough that he knows, look, this is, this is, this is a gimmick until, or this is, this is my life until it's a gimmick.
Speaker C:And then when it's a gimmick it just becomes, you know, how am I going to make money out of, out of what, what's to come next?
Speaker C:But like, yeah, no, Wood, Wood has such a down to earth personality and, and, and, and ultimately now when I watch any, basically anything, either Disney or, or Star wars or whatever, I'm all, I'm almost always looking for his name to be attached to something as far as sound engineering or whatever.
Speaker A:Well, and if he learned from Ben Burtt and if you've ever seen a Ben Burt interview and how kind of a man Ben Burt is.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker A:Anybody else wouldn't have worked out for, I don't know, what is it, 26 years now?
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker A:Since the original, the Star Wars Episode 1.
Speaker C:It's amazing he's been attached to that for so long.
Speaker C:But yeah, I'd love to.
Speaker C:Just like with Waterson, I was sitting there talking shop.
Speaker C:We were talking about microphones and things like that.
Speaker C:I'd love to talk with Matthew Wood.
Speaker A:About like Whaterson and Watterson and Barrett are buddies now.
Speaker C:Well, I don't have, I don't have his cell phone number, but we have chatted.
Speaker B:But did he ever write back to you on Instagram or just read?
Speaker C:He's, he's responded, he's responded almost every time I've sent him something.
Speaker C:I, we've, we, I've shared posts that, that have him in it and he's liked them.
Speaker C:So you know, it's, he's, he, is, he.
Speaker C:Matthew Watterson is so effortless with the crowd.
Speaker C:He is.
Speaker C:He.
Speaker C:He is genuinely just so friendly.
Speaker A:And like Pedro Pascal, he is a daddy.
Speaker A:And that's how he presents.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker A:100.
Speaker C:One of the.
Speaker C:One of the funny things.
Speaker C:And we didn't.
Speaker C:We didn't bring it up.
Speaker C:I don't.
Speaker C:I don't know if I mentioned it to you, Brock, when we were there, but when.
Speaker C:When we first went down there on Saturday morning and we were talking to Waterson and he recognized us immediately.
Speaker C:Deneen came over, and she was talking to all of us.
Speaker A:We told Brock about this.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:Okay.
Speaker C:So.
Speaker C:So Deneen comes over, and she says, I remember.
Speaker B:I know where this is going.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:So at one point, Deneen said, barrett and Zach would like to take you to dinner.
Speaker C:And we both, like, immediately was like.
Speaker C:It was like, I don't think that's what we said.
Speaker C:We'd love to go to dinner.
Speaker C:Well, we're not taking anyone to dinner because that.
Speaker C:That means that they now like to.
Speaker A:Take you out for a dance and a snack.
Speaker A:What do you.
Speaker C:But it was.
Speaker C:It was so awkward that I did have to ask him about in the interview.
Speaker C:I did take it out of the interview, though.
Speaker C:I took it out of the interview with him.
Speaker A:He was so sweet that he was like, oh, Deneen always asks people, this person wants to take you dinner.
Speaker A:This person.
Speaker A:I was like, no, they don't.
Speaker A:Matthew, you're great at covering.
Speaker A:No, they don't.
Speaker C:But it was genuinely a good time.
Speaker C:All right, Bill, we've taken over, so now you get to ask us another question.
Speaker A:I mean, hey, let's ask a question, and we'll go.
Speaker A:We'll go.
Speaker A:Brock, Barrett, me.
Speaker C:Okay.
Speaker C:Yeah, that'll work.
Speaker D:Okay.
Speaker D:Oh, to.
Speaker D:I mean, I can ask y'all as a whole crowd.
Speaker D:I mean, this is great.
Speaker D:Let's see.
Speaker A:I'm talking about response.
Speaker A:Response levels.
Speaker D:Oh, okay.
Speaker D:I see.
Speaker D:All right.
Speaker D:You mentioned food, though.
Speaker D:I want to know about.
Speaker D:I want to know about the food that was there this time compared to the.
Speaker D:The vendors in Colombia.
Speaker D:I mean, the food that I had in Colombia was great, too.
Speaker D:Just.
Speaker D:I don't know about Wilmington.
Speaker B:Okay.
Speaker B:You mentioned food, and I perk up.
Speaker B:So I think that the.
Speaker B:I think, personally, I believe that the concession offerings in Wilmington are as good as any convention center I've ever been in.
Speaker C:I mean, I agree.
Speaker B:And that was one of the things that really impressed me.
Speaker B:And when you are.
Speaker B:When you promote a show and you run a show and you run around back of house and you learn the ins and outs, like, you start to recognize Some of the same faces, and you get to know some of the same people.
Speaker B:And not that they may see this, they may not, I don't know, but their food and beverage or whatever manager's name is Tracy.
Speaker B:And Tracy is just knock down.
Speaker B:Fantastic.
Speaker B:I can't say enough good things about Tracy.
Speaker B:He goes above and beyond.
Speaker B:If there's anything we need, I can text him, say, hey, I need such and such here, such and such there.
Speaker B:No problem.
Speaker B:I'm on it.
Speaker B:I got it.
Speaker B:And like, he stops what he's doing and goes and addresses it personally.
Speaker B:Now, for me, I'm a huge fan of, like, service and personal service, but the quality of food that they have is.
Speaker B:It really is good.
Speaker B:I mean, you know, when you think of like, you know, the easiest thing to compare it to is like a ballpark, right.
Speaker B:Stadium food or bar food, you know, and of course, they have hot dogs and they have maybe chicken fingers and a couple of your traditional, you know, offerings.
Speaker B:But they have things that like, other places don't have.
Speaker B:They have a brisket sandwich.
Speaker B:They have what they call a walking.
Speaker B:You have.
Speaker B:Did you have one of those, Zach?
Speaker A:No, I saw them.
Speaker A:Barrett.
Speaker A:Barrett said that's what he was like, there it is.
Speaker A:There's a brisket.
Speaker B:Like, yeah, I was like, yeah, no, they do.
Speaker B:They have a veggie option.
Speaker B:Like some sort of veggie type burger for the non meat eaters, the weird folks of the world.
Speaker B:Yep.
Speaker B:Missing out, those people.
Speaker B:No, I'm not.
Speaker C:No, they're missing out.
Speaker B:Yeah, they are.
Speaker B:You're right.
Speaker B:You're absolutely right.
Speaker B:But I'm more than happy to eat their share of meat.
Speaker B:They have what.
Speaker B:They have like this thing called a walking taco, where they take like ground beef and some other toppings and they put it in a bag of Doritos and like crush it up and then you eat it like out of the bag.
Speaker B:That.
Speaker B:That's always good.
Speaker B:I mean, they.
Speaker B:They have a.
Speaker B:They.
Speaker B:Caitlin Roebuck, which you told Minnie Mouse was talking about, she ordered like the chicken fingers and there was like 20 chicken nuggets, little nuggets or little fingers or something in her one little serving.
Speaker B:She's like, this is way more than I ever thought I would get.
Speaker B:So, I mean, I could rattle on and on about the food, but that was one of the things that really early on when they sent me the menu.
Speaker B:It's extensive and it's actually not terribly expensive for what you get.
Speaker B:It's not like most places are, you know, like 14, $16 for a meal.
Speaker B:There's like, maybe you can get a decent meal for under 10 bucks.
Speaker B:And that can include a bottle of water.
Speaker B:Like two bucks for a bottle of water, which I'm like, okay, that's reasonable too.
Speaker B:So, yeah, it's not bad.
Speaker B:It's really good.
Speaker C:It's like going to a Falcons game where the, where all of the food is very inexpensive.
Speaker C:Like you pay enough to get in there.
Speaker C:Why charge a whole bunch of money?
Speaker C:Not saying the Comic Con, but the Falcons games.
Speaker C:And also they had Bill, they had a pulled pork barbecue, nachos that were fantastic.
Speaker D:Oh, dang.
Speaker D:Okay.
Speaker A:Did.
Speaker B:Did you partake in that?
Speaker C:I did.
Speaker C:Oh, yes.
Speaker C:Oh, yeah.
Speaker C:Oh, yeah.
Speaker C:Like, I.
Speaker C:And then.
Speaker C:And then Sunday morning, I didn't.
Speaker C:I think I had.
Speaker C:I want to say I had.
Speaker B:You saw them again?
Speaker C:Well, I know.
Speaker C:I went and got the sausage egg.
Speaker A:Their breakfast menu.
Speaker C:Yeah, the sausage egg biscuit was fantastic.
Speaker C:I get that.
Speaker C:It was probably just, you know, microwave.
Speaker C:Not.
Speaker C:They didn't microwave it, but they heated it up and it was pre made, but whatever.
Speaker C:But it was, it was, it was done.
Speaker C:And it.
Speaker C:It was still available after 11.
Speaker B:Know if that's the case, because when I was running back and forth, I actually saw them making things.
Speaker C:Well, there you go.
Speaker B:Cooking it and assembling it.
Speaker B:So I'm not, I'm not convinced that it was just a heat up something that was pre made.
Speaker B:No, I think they actually cook it well.
Speaker C:Then they stepped it up because it tasted fresh and the texture was great.
Speaker C:And I was just ecstatic because when we got there, it was like, the show didn't start till the con didn't start till 11 on Sunday.
Speaker C:And they only served breakfast up to 11.
Speaker C:I walked right up to him.
Speaker C:I was like, is there any chance y'all got at least one of those biscuits left?
Speaker C:And then the girl came out, she said, we have six.
Speaker C:I said, well, I just need one.
Speaker C:And then three other people behind me took three.
Speaker C:So, you know, honestly, the service was fantastic.
Speaker C:The I, you know, we had.
Speaker C:We had.
Speaker C:So where we were set up, where Brock had a setup was literally right next to the door that you could walk out, but the concessions were just to our left.
Speaker C:Or there was a smaller set of concessions.
Speaker C:It wasn't all the hot cooked food, but it was like drinks.
Speaker C:And they.
Speaker C:Oh, oh, another selling point.
Speaker C:Alcohol.
Speaker C:They served alcohol.
Speaker D:Oh, they have.
Speaker D:Y'all have beer in Wilmington?
Speaker C:Beer and wine.
Speaker B:That's their.
Speaker B:That's their choice.
Speaker B:That's not us.
Speaker B:We basically, we told them like, you know, we.
Speaker B:Oh, yeah, don't be owing me.
Speaker A:There was nobody who abided too much or anything.
Speaker A:It was just cool that you're like, that's it.
Speaker A:That's freaking awesome.
Speaker B:I'll give you my, my hot take on that.
Speaker B:Like, we, as an organization, we're.
Speaker B:We're not anti alcohol, but we're not pro.
Speaker B:We're like, whatever, take it or leave it.
Speaker B:It doesn't matter because we, we market ourselves as a family friendly event.
Speaker B:And some families be like, you shouldn't consume alcohol.
Speaker B:And that's okay.
Speaker B:We just told them where, like, if you want to serve beer and wine or whatever, you're welcome to do that.
Speaker B:We're just basically not going to accept any liability if something were to happen.
Speaker B:And they said, okay, no problem.
Speaker B:We got it covered.
Speaker B:And we said, all right, cool.
Speaker B:And so we're out.
Speaker A:We have a lot of beers and wine back here.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:Columbia is welcome to do it too, but they want us to cover the liability insurance.
Speaker B:And I'm like, nope.
Speaker C:Yeah, that's a big issue in South Carolina as a whole.
Speaker B:Well, I hear about it from Senator Walker.
Speaker C:So, yeah, overture Walker.
Speaker C:Give him a little plug and I will give him.
Speaker A:I will get him on your show.
Speaker B:I can probably get Russell, too.
Speaker C:Oh, yeah, we.
Speaker C:Could we get Russell.
Speaker B:You've already had Russell.
Speaker C:Okay, well, and, and ultimately, and I'll just say this on the side, I am trying to talk his campaign manager into going ahead and launching his, his, his congressional career because now's the time to jump what districts he into to.
Speaker C:Yep.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:So.
Speaker C:Oh, come on.
Speaker C:Joe Wilson, his last hurrah is trying to get Donald Trump on a $250 bill.
Speaker A:If anybody could do it, it's.
Speaker C:That's, that's where.
Speaker C:That's where, you know, he jumped the shark.
Speaker C:So anyway, politics.
Speaker B:That may be true, Fonz, but it's, it's old habits die hard in Lexington and Aiken.
Speaker C:That's true.
Speaker C:But Russell, I think, and again, you.
Speaker A:Talk to Russell a lot.
Speaker A:He could be.
Speaker A:Whatever he's talking to you about, you're just like, yeah, I like it.
Speaker C:Russell.
Speaker C:Russell is.
Speaker C:Russell is the kind of guy I think that could pull.
Speaker C:That can be nonpartisan, that he can pull in both sides.
Speaker C:And I think that if he started it, if he started his campaign now, I think.
Speaker C:I think we'd be all right.
Speaker A:I'm jealous of the whaler shirt.
Speaker A:I want one of those.
Speaker A:I got to get me one of those.
Speaker B:This is awesome.
Speaker B:So, you know, I'll tell you this.
Speaker B:You know, you guys probably know I'm I support the Carolina Hurricanes and I'm a big hockey cocky guy.
Speaker B:Very white of me.
Speaker B:Thank you.
Speaker B:But it's true.
Speaker B:It's true.
Speaker B:But.
Speaker B:So the night, the 27th, the day before setup, I.
Speaker B:My Paul and I went to Whalers night in Raleigh.
Speaker B:So we went and saw them play Buffalo that Thursday night.
Speaker B:And since it was Whalers night, I bought myself this Whaler's shirt.
Speaker B:I bought Ethan a green shirt with the whale on it.
Speaker B:It says it has ers, so it's whale ers.
Speaker B:And these are like the throwback.
Speaker B:The throwback vintage ones.
Speaker B:I bought a couple of koozies for the beers that I don't drink, but that's neither here nor there.
Speaker B:So, yeah, this I like.
Speaker A:It's the coolest alternate team you can be in my.
Speaker B:By far and away.
Speaker B:Although I don't know who the Minnesota North Stars ultimately end up becoming, but the North Stars would kind of be a cool throwback too.
Speaker B:Or maybe the Nor.
Speaker B:Even.
Speaker B:Even the Nordiques if we want to really go back.
Speaker B:But.
Speaker A:Well, if you.
Speaker A:If you like.
Speaker A:If you like hockey so much, go check out Cock hockey.
Speaker A:They just won the Division 3 National Championship.
Speaker B:That's a club team, right?
Speaker A:I've had the most fun watching hockey than any game.
Speaker D:Yeah, SGTV does all the live streams and stuff.
Speaker D:I.
Speaker D:I had only.
Speaker D:I'd never been able to tag along for one while I was there.
Speaker A:But they're very.
Speaker A:Those games are so much fun.
Speaker B:Here's the thing.
Speaker B:If I were to go, I'd want to be like, hey, give me some pads and some skates.
Speaker B:And I want to get out there and try and then just embarrass the shit out of myself and probably fall.
Speaker B:But I think you'll be.
Speaker B:I mean, of course, I'm an old man who's never really ice skated and has certainly never played hockey, but I think it'd be the funnest thing in the world to like, try out for like a beer league team or something and just get out there and hock.
Speaker A:Hockey plays at the Plex over there in Irma.
Speaker A:Well, yeah, Peak exit.
Speaker A:And they do.
Speaker A:It's on ice.
Speaker A:You've skated before.
Speaker A:So you're like, man, if I go out there and check somebody, I can skate well enough.
Speaker B:Once I get going, I can skate.
Speaker A:The best moment I've ever had in Zach's personal sports history.
Speaker A:It was South Carolina playing Clemson's hockey, and a Carolina player checked them right where they come in.
Speaker A:So they just put those rubber band cords over the entrance door.
Speaker A:He checked them right into my beer, and it was just a fountain of beer.
Speaker A:And everyone's like, yes.
Speaker A:And I'm just covered in foam.
Speaker A:And I'm like, yeah, it's just like a baptismal of hockey is just the best thing that could ever happen.
Speaker C:Well, staying.
Speaker C:Staying on hockey.
Speaker C:I'm excited to find out.
Speaker C:It sounds like the Atlanta Thrashers might be coming back.
Speaker C:There is rumors that there is a facility that's going to be built for it and that Atlanta is going to have an NHL hockey team again.
Speaker B:Well, if they're.
Speaker B:If they're going to expand, they'll have to bring in one more team because they would have an odd number of teams.
Speaker B:They'll have to expand with two.
Speaker B:They do one in the east, one in the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference, but.
Speaker B:Well, they actually.
Speaker B:If they're going to do it, they need to do four.
Speaker A:Really.
Speaker A:Columbia Inferno come pro hockey.
Speaker C:Oh, I loved watching Columbia Inferno.
Speaker C:I loved going to those games.
Speaker C:A friend of mine, she was the marketing director for the Columbia Inferno.
Speaker C: I went, you know, from like,: Speaker C:Like, that was.
Speaker C:That was at least twice or I guess at least twice a month.
Speaker A:South Carolina has a real great way of ruining professional sports for everybody.
Speaker C:This is true.
Speaker A:Nascar, Panthers, hockey.
Speaker C:Phil, we took over again.
Speaker B:We jumped the shark.
Speaker C:What is your next.
Speaker C:What is your next question?
Speaker D:That's fun.
Speaker C:This podcast jumped the shark years ago.
Speaker D:Yeah, no, we were talking about liquor liability.
Speaker D:I was immediately about to start getting political.
Speaker D:So I get it.
Speaker A:Everyone shut the fuck up.
Speaker A:Count to five in your heads, and then Bill starts to talk.
Speaker D:No, but, yeah, so this time around, I mean, what kind of merch did y'all have?
Speaker D:Any, like, custom stuff?
Speaker D:I don't.
Speaker D:I don't know.
Speaker D:Are you.
Speaker D:Are y'all the ones that, like, have the mugs and all that kind of stuff?
Speaker D:All the Comic Con things?
Speaker C:Can I.
Speaker C:Well, can I first?
Speaker C:Can I first?
Speaker C:So when.
Speaker C:When Ami and I arrived at the.
Speaker C:The actual convention center, Brock was behind a desk.
Speaker C:I texted him to try and find out where he was, but I didn't see him.
Speaker C:And when we.
Speaker C:When.
Speaker C:When he yelled at me something offensive, I.
Speaker C:We turned probably, and walked.
Speaker C:Yeah, so I.
Speaker C:We turn.
Speaker C:He actually had a 3x shirt that he tried to give to a me.
Speaker C:Ami took it.
Speaker C:I now have that 3x shirt because she was like, there's no way I'm ever going to wear this.
Speaker C:But it was.
Speaker C:It was one of the shirts that had been.
Speaker C:I guess it Was it didn't meet quality control.
Speaker B:There was one in it.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker C:But it.
Speaker C:So, So I now have that shirt and I should have.
Speaker C:I should have adorned it, but it's.
Speaker C:It's.
Speaker C:I put it on for a second.
Speaker C:It's huge.
Speaker C:Like, thankfully, I don't wear 3X shirts anymore, so.
Speaker A:Yeah, us guys go in like 3X is like a nightgown.
Speaker A:Get it out of here.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker B:Well, you can have your wife do.
Speaker B:Do wifely duties and stitch it up and whatever they call it where they sew.
Speaker A:The twins, she loves her three extra.
Speaker C:There you go.
Speaker B:There you go.
Speaker C:See, I'll give it.
Speaker C:Zach, it's yours.
Speaker A:I'll take it.
Speaker C:But yeah, the.
Speaker C:The merch they had this year, and I'll just.
Speaker C:I'll speak for Brock was they had.
Speaker C:They had a bunch of different.
Speaker C:Not T shirt designs, but the, The.
Speaker C:They had different styles of the actual shirt makeup, including some tie dye shirts, which was really cool.
Speaker C:There were some different color variations from.
Speaker C:From what I had seen previously.
Speaker C:And the design on the back of the shirt I thought was extremely apropos for Wilmington, North Carolina.
Speaker B:Would you like me to go grab one?
Speaker C:Yeah, if you want.
Speaker B:All right, I'll just.
Speaker A:While he's getting out the thing that.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:As soon as he brings it back, we'll say why this shirt design on the back of it was extremely apropos.
Speaker A:Because someone put it there for a reason.
Speaker C:It had to be there 100%.
Speaker C:And when Brock gets back, I definitely want him to explain why it's there because I imagine Brock is not the type.
Speaker D:Sounds quick.
Speaker C:Have some sort of.
Speaker A:I'm a native vacationer of Wilmington, North Carolina.
Speaker A:My grandparents had a beach house there.
Speaker A:That's where we always went to Wrightsville, Carolina, and Carrie.
Speaker A:So I love that place.
Speaker A:But it's the most accurate backing I've ever seen.
Speaker C:I thought they were awesome shirts.
Speaker C:Show us the back of the shirt and.
Speaker B:All right, so.
Speaker B:Yep, the what bear was talking to a different color.
Speaker B:They're called blanks if you want to get into the business.
Speaker B:And so we had a mint green.
Speaker B:We had a pink.
Speaker B:We had what's called hazy rainbow, which is kind of yellows and purples and pinks.
Speaker B:Tie dye and then a black blue.
Speaker B:I forget what they called this one, but so we just had our little logo on the left chest.
Speaker C:Awesome.
Speaker B:Just our basic generic coastal logo.
Speaker B:And then let's.
Speaker B:Let's see if I can frame this correctly.
Speaker A:Let's see what's up inside the tree.
Speaker C:Bill, Bill, is there anything.
Speaker C:Is there Anything on that shirt that stands?
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker C:There is nowhere.
Speaker C:There is virtually nowhere you can go in Wilmington, North Carolina, where there isn't a fucking parking meter.
Speaker D:Really?
Speaker A:You're coming.
Speaker A:Forever's parked right there.
Speaker C:The shirt design is amazing.
Speaker C:So, Brock, who came up with the design for the shirt?
Speaker B:Me.
Speaker A:You?
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:Okay.
Speaker C:But.
Speaker B:Well, it wasn't 100% me, but that particular design with the palm tree and the parking meter is actually a place at rightful beach called Palm Tree Island.
Speaker B:Or it's been named Palm Tree island by the locals.
Speaker B:And essentially what it is is it's a.
Speaker B:It's an island, I believe during low tide, during high tide, it doesn't exist.
Speaker B:The waterways or whatever kind of, you know, tide.
Speaker B:As the tides actually go in and out, they.
Speaker B:People think that they rise and fall.
Speaker B:Nope.
Speaker B:The earth actually rotates into the bulges.
Speaker A:Of water on the side.
Speaker B:Neil Tyson Degrasse or whatever his name is, taught me that.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:My best friend.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:And somebody.
Speaker B:Somebody thought it would be funny to take an artificial palm tree and plant it on this island.
Speaker B:So that's what they did.
Speaker B:They took it and they planted this fake tree on this island.
Speaker B:Well, then another person, who knows who it may be, it may never be discovered, wanted to protest the excessive and exorbitant parking all over the Wilmington area.
Speaker B:So they took an old parking meter and.
Speaker B:And planted it on the island, too.
Speaker B:And so now it's become this kind of this tour, this trendy, hangout, touristy spot, and it's kind of called Palm Tree Island.
Speaker B:And if you Google Palm Tree Island, Wilmington or Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, you will see all sorts of boats and people just hanging out by that.
Speaker B:So I was like, you know what?
Speaker B:When we do a shirt, we wanted to do something that was very uniquely Wilmington.
Speaker B:Like that.
Speaker B:It's going to be like, if you see that and you're from Wilmington, like, oh, yeah, I know exactly where that is.
Speaker B:And then Powell wanted to add kind of the TIE fighters in the background, because we had a couple of Star wars people.
Speaker B:So we said, you know what?
Speaker B:We'll throw a couple TIE fighters in the background.
Speaker B:Like, we.
Speaker B:We could have thrown like a kind of a moon in the top.
Speaker B:Like, oh, that's no moon, but yeah, I thought that was just a little much.
Speaker A:Well, and that's funny because I think that.
Speaker A:I think that that island was more of a.
Speaker A:Just a glorified sandbar that people would go out to.
Speaker B:Yeah, that's basically what it is.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker A:Mm.
Speaker A:The.
Speaker C:The.
Speaker A:What was funny is Barrett and I got A firsthand look at the parking situation when we went downtown.
Speaker A:And I followed them here.
Speaker A:Barrett's like, this can't be more than like 11 bucks.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker A:$24.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:$24 for park.
Speaker C:For parking.
Speaker C:For two hours.
Speaker D:Yeah, for two hours.
Speaker C:A minimum of two hours.
Speaker C:Like.
Speaker C:Like you could do an hour.
Speaker A:There's a heater.
Speaker D:Were there parking garages anywhere?
Speaker C:Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker A:But.
Speaker C:Yeah, no.
Speaker C:Well, there were.
Speaker C:There were some parking garages downtown, but I was just.
Speaker A:Just not where we were.
Speaker C:But like, every time.
Speaker C:Every time I tried to pull into a parking garage after Zach bailed, he went.
Speaker C:He went to Hooters.
Speaker C:But every time.
Speaker C:Every time.
Speaker C:Yeah, I know, but every time Columbia shut down.
Speaker C:Did the.
Speaker A:No, it's not.
Speaker C:No, it did.
Speaker C:Remote isn't shut down.
Speaker B:The 102 notch did.
Speaker C:Yeah, the one in Irma.
Speaker B:We're blythe with people.
Speaker B:We don't.
Speaker B:We don't go all the way out as Egypt.
Speaker C:But.
Speaker C:But I ultimately I tried to pull into a couple of parking garages and they.
Speaker C:They were either so slow people pulling in that it was a traffic hazard waiting to get in.
Speaker C:But like, that, that.
Speaker C:That downtown Wilmington area is just with like, rest.
Speaker A:Imagine if you took two and a half.
Speaker A:Imagine five points, but you took two and a half feet of road off of each side.
Speaker A:Yeah, that's downtown Wilmington.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:It's a little nerve wracking driving happened.
Speaker A:To pass the same one, and we're driving like, oh, my God, this is when you're going to die.
Speaker A:I don't know who decided that the roads should be as wide as the screen I'm on right now.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker A:And then that's exactly what it is.
Speaker C:And then.
Speaker C:And I would say that downtown Wilmington isn't lit as well as it probably could be.
Speaker C:And some crosswalks aren't really defined very well.
Speaker C:And you know, there's a college co.
Speaker A:Ed with a broken leg on the street.
Speaker A:Like, who was that?
Speaker A:Barrett's like, say nothing.
Speaker C:I've spent plenty of time in New York City.
Speaker C:I know how people cross the streets, things like that.
Speaker C:They take.
Speaker C:They take that to an extreme in the hop.
Speaker A:They play good baseball up there at UNC Wilmington.
Speaker C:Yeah, that's true.
Speaker D:Wild dude.
Speaker D:And I was angry about a $50 ticket.
Speaker D:I got.
Speaker D:$24.
Speaker D:That'd be what, for four hours of parking and make it up in Colombia?
Speaker D:That is awful.
Speaker A:I looked at me and I was.
Speaker C:Like, God, but when I.
Speaker C:When I saw that parking meter on the back of the shirt, I was like, oh, I get the joke, but it's not pointed out to me.
Speaker A:I was like, apropos.
Speaker C:Yeah, I.
Speaker C:I thought it.
Speaker C:I thought it was part of the joke as far as the.
Speaker C:The cost of parking downtown.
Speaker C:But then, you know, to know that there's actually a reason for it and there's a touristy reason for it.
Speaker A:Every time we went to the beach, you had to pay that parking meter, and someone would have to run across the sand, go put cotton quarters.
Speaker C:Yeah, that's crazy.
Speaker D:Do they have tickets for late fees and stuff on there?
Speaker D:Like, how.
Speaker D:How much is it?
Speaker A:They'll give you a ticket when you.
Speaker A:When it's not expired yet.
Speaker A:They just know your ass ain't running from the beach back here.
Speaker A:They're like, probably.
Speaker C:That's insane.
Speaker D:Wow.
Speaker C:I mean, I get it.
Speaker C:You got to make.
Speaker C:You got to make income revenue somehow.
Speaker C:But like that.
Speaker A:Not uncommon to see somebody fighting a meter maid.
Speaker A:Ticket me, you bitch.
Speaker D:Oh, my God, Bill.
Speaker D:Yeah, tell me one more.
Speaker D:One more.
Speaker D:Okay.
Speaker A:I got a pregnant woman who's gonna start throwing shit at me.
Speaker C:That's true.
Speaker C:That's true.
Speaker D:No, Yeah.
Speaker D:I mean, did y'all get any merch signed any by anybody this time around?
Speaker D:I know last time you got a couple things, especially Zach.
Speaker D:I can't remember what you got.
Speaker D:Zach.
Speaker A:Zach.
Speaker C:Zach got himself taken care of.
Speaker A:So last time, I got Sam Witwer to sign my steel panel of him from days gone as Deacon St.
Speaker A:John.
Speaker A:This time, I got a video.
Speaker A:So Ross Marquan was so kind enough to be like, my Michelin team.
Speaker A:On my Bos team are big Walking Dead fans, super Aaron fans from the Walking Dead.
Speaker A:So he was kind enough to shoot a video and talk about how he's my best friend and that how cool I am and make sure that they know how cool I am and shout out to the Bos team.
Speaker A:So that was awesome.
Speaker A:Then he took some pictures with me, and then I paid for Minnie Mouse to do a video for my daughter.
Speaker A:And she not only did that, she threw in a signed Minnie Mouse picture.
Speaker A:And like I said before, my daughter's face is still grinning from every time you play it.
Speaker B:She was like, I love you.
Speaker A:He did.
Speaker A:Because it's like all this stuff, and I was like.
Speaker A:Like, my daughter blew her mind just to see that.
Speaker A:Needless to say, she'll be sitting with us at the.
Speaker A:The next con in August.
Speaker A:So, yeah, I love.
Speaker D:There you go.
Speaker C:I didn't get.
Speaker C:I didn't get anything signed.
Speaker C:I did.
Speaker C:I did purchase some stuff from some vendors this time where I had not before, because what do we buy?
Speaker A:Barrett, you got them.
Speaker A:And then it suckered me into it, and it was awesome.
Speaker C:I went to the Mini or the Lego figurines place.
Speaker C:I can't remember what they were called, but they had amazing heroes.
Speaker C:Amazing heroes.
Speaker C:They had the largest variety of.
Speaker C:And they're off brand Legos, but they're Legos.
Speaker A:They're exactly Legos.
Speaker C:Yeah, they're perfect.
Speaker C:So I got nine of them because it was like, $30 for nine, and you get to pick out which ones you wanted.
Speaker C:So I got, like, a Thanos, a Wolverine, a Deadpool.
Speaker C:I got the last Thanos.
Speaker C:I did get the last Thanos.
Speaker C:In fact.
Speaker C:In fact, Zach asked.
Speaker C:He said.
Speaker C:He said, you better get that one.
Speaker C:Or you said something about, you better get that one.
Speaker C:It's the last.
Speaker C:I bet it's the last one.
Speaker C:The guy was like, it is the last one.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker C:And.
Speaker C:And then Zach was mad at me that I got the last one.
Speaker A:There were no other Thanos.
Speaker C:Spider Man.
Speaker C:I got both Captain America's.
Speaker C:You know, it was.
Speaker C:They had an unbelievably wide variety.
Speaker C:And then, like, when I went back and we were trying to.
Speaker C:Because ami had gotten a Green Bay packers one that the G was backward or the G was upside down, so it was pointing in the wrong direction.
Speaker A:No, it was like mirror reverse.
Speaker C:Yeah, it was mirrored.
Speaker C:And so we took it back to see.
Speaker C:No, all of the.
Speaker C:All of the Green Bay Packers G's were mirrored, so they were all facing the wrong direction.
Speaker C:And then she had a.
Speaker C:What does she have?
Speaker C:A Chicago Bears that didn't have polluted purple pants?
Speaker C:Yeah, it was purple pants.
Speaker C:So she was.
Speaker C:She.
Speaker C:She wanted me to see if I could exchange them for the correct color pants.
Speaker C:And I walked over there, and I was looking.
Speaker C:I was like, they're all wrong.
Speaker C:I said.
Speaker C:I said, clearly, these guys are on the right side of, like, sports fandom, because he's not a fan of the Green Bay Packers.
Speaker C:He's not a fan of the Chicago Bears.
Speaker C:The Falcons one looks right.
Speaker C:So, you know, I made some assumptions there about what?
Speaker A:I saw Barrett giggling while picking out his basketball.
Speaker A:And, like, when he was halfway through, I was like, son of a bitch, here's 20 bucks.
Speaker A:I want six.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker A:And so I went through and picked out, like, I got it.
Speaker A:Indiana Jones, Batman, Wolverine, Gandalf.
Speaker A:One more.
Speaker A:I can't remember.
Speaker C:You got to get white.
Speaker C:Gandalf or gray?
Speaker C:Gray.
Speaker A:Gray.
Speaker A:Gray.
Speaker C:You got gray, too.
Speaker C:Okay.
Speaker C:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker A:So I got.
Speaker A:I got.
Speaker A:I got all those, like, Boba Fett.
Speaker A:I got Boba Fett.
Speaker A:That was like, the last one.
Speaker C:Yeah.
Speaker A:Then we went and got coasters.
Speaker A:We got cups.
Speaker A:I got a shirt.
Speaker C:I use my doctor who coaster, you know?
Speaker A:Yeah, we got.
Speaker A:Those coasters are amazing.
Speaker A:I have it at work.
Speaker A:I have my Legos and my coasters at work.
Speaker D:Brock, I'm guessing you just accumulate stuff.
Speaker B:No, actually, I.
Speaker B:I don't.
Speaker B:I.
Speaker B:I'm very much a.
Speaker B:I try to be somewhat of a minimalist, and I try not to accumulate because I just my.
Speaker B:I look at my office right now, and everybody like, oh, you got a lot of stuff in your office.
Speaker B:I'm like, yeah, but most of it needs to go.
Speaker B:So.
Speaker D:Yeah, I'm the same way.
Speaker C:It's gonna be very difficult for me to.
Speaker C:To.
Speaker C:To move to Norway with all of the stuff I have.
Speaker C:So at some point, everyone on this.
Speaker C:On this episode is going to wind up getting a bag of things that I.
Speaker C:I can't take to Finland or Norway.
Speaker A:With Barrett's gone and no one's heard from him for two months, we're allowed to go through his shit.
Speaker C:That's right.
Speaker C:Two months.
Speaker C:Wait a week.
Speaker C:After a week, just.
Speaker C:Just jump in.
Speaker A:I hadn't heard from Barrett for a week.
Speaker A:He's like, I was held captive by Jean Claude Van Damme.
Speaker C:Bill, you got any more questions for.
Speaker C:For.
Speaker C:For us?
Speaker C:Because we've kind of taken over any.
Speaker C:Any answers that Brock could have given, I guess.
Speaker D:No, man.
Speaker D:I mean, I know you were talking about that The.
Speaker D:The end character, but was there any other, like, cosplay that stood out among the crowd?
Speaker A:A Wampa and a Chewbacca and a Big Hero.
Speaker A:Six, A Baymax.
Speaker A:Those are the three.
Speaker A:There was like, seven Foot Wampa.
Speaker C:There was.
Speaker C:I saw video footage of Baymax and.
Speaker C:And the.
Speaker C:The Wampa.
Speaker C:They were.
Speaker C:They were going.
Speaker C:They were about to go at each other, like, in slow motion, but they were.
Speaker C:Each other, which was a really cool thing to see.
Speaker C:The 501st was there.
Speaker C:I guess it was the North Carolina regiment of the 501st or the 501.
Speaker C:No.
Speaker C:What are we not supposed to call them?
Speaker B:I think they're garrisons.
Speaker C:The Garrison.
Speaker C:Okay, well, I just know Albin gets on to me every time I say.
Speaker C:I either say 501st or the.
Speaker C:Or the.
Speaker C:The 501 or something like that, whatever it is.
Speaker C:Yeah, it's 501st.
Speaker B:501S.
Speaker C:Yeah, the 501.
Speaker A:501S.
Speaker A:You guys are the 500.
Speaker B:500 ones.
Speaker C:Either.
Speaker C:Either Donald.
Speaker C:Yeah, either Donald, Donna or Albin will get on to me about that because I know.
Speaker C:I know Donald and Donald Donn listen to the show.
Speaker C:So they'll.
Speaker C:They'll probably torment you boys.
Speaker A:One of those storm marchers I've heard so much about.
Speaker B:Storm marchers.
Speaker B:I will just.
Speaker A:Space samurai.
Speaker C:I will just say the 501st garrison showing up at these Comic Cons is such a thrill.
Speaker C:Like, the number of people that get excited about getting to take pictures with all of the.
Speaker C:All of the characters in their costumes is just outstanding.
Speaker C:Like, I stood there and watched as little kids were walking up and like, here's Chewbacca.
Speaker C:They get to take a picture with the drones or the droids they got to take pictures with.
Speaker C:They had a guy with a.
Speaker C:With an actual remote controlled R2D2 on Sunday that so many.
Speaker C:Like, I saw.
Speaker C:Like, I probably saw 10 or 15 people in the.
Speaker C:In the five or 10 minutes I was standing there watching them take pictures with R2D2 and interact with R2D2.
Speaker C:Like, it was.
Speaker C:It was such a cool thing.
Speaker C:So I know we're getting towards the end of this episode.
Speaker C:Brock, you have some news that you want to drop or.
Speaker C:Okay, you have news that we want you to drop.
Speaker C:What is it that's going on?
Speaker B:Well, you did.
Speaker B:You didn't mention the 501st or the 501s.
Speaker B:I've got a bunch of cool plans coming up for Soda City Comic con with the 501s, so that's going to be fun.
Speaker B:I'm actually looking at it right now, but I'm not going to read any of them off because that would spoil all the fun.
Speaker B:But we're definitely going to have a lot of fun with them at the August event.
Speaker B:But we can safely say that.
Speaker B:Would you guys agree that Columbia is pretty good Star wars town?
Speaker C:I think so, for sure.
Speaker B:Yeah, I think so too.
Speaker B: ave officially signed for the: Speaker C:Hold on.
Speaker C:Don't say it yet.
Speaker C:I've got.
Speaker C:Hold on.
Speaker C:I've got.
Speaker C:Let me.
Speaker C:Let me.
Speaker C:Let me.
Speaker C:Let me.
Speaker C:Let me get.
Speaker C:Let me get some.
Speaker C:Here we go.
Speaker A:Damn it, Barrett.
Speaker C:Here we go.
Speaker B:What is that?
Speaker B:Is that antimony roll?
Speaker C:It's Tiffany roll.
Speaker B:Oh, I thought that was like a noisemaker that I fall asleep to every night.
Speaker A:Is that a fart?
Speaker B:That was about as anticlimactic as it gets.
Speaker B:You need to edit that crap out.
Speaker C:Well, okay, I'll do.
Speaker C:Look, I've got.
Speaker C:I'll do.
Speaker C:I'll do one Better.
Speaker A:Oh, my God.
Speaker A:No one gives a shit.
Speaker A:Barry Brock, say what you're gonna say.
Speaker B:I was trying.
Speaker B:He's like, it's better.
Speaker B:All right, there we go.
Speaker B:That's good.
Speaker B:Now you can edit it back in.
Speaker B: is going to be a guest at the: Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Hades.
Speaker C:That is huge.
Speaker C:That is huge.
Speaker C:She.
Speaker C:Not.
Speaker C:Not only was she Star wars, but one of my favorite series on AMC or on Netflix is Longmire.
Speaker C:That is.
Speaker A:She was on a small startup Battlestar Galactica.
Speaker A:You'll probably never.
Speaker C:Battle Star Galactica.
Speaker C:She was she in.
Speaker C:In.
Speaker C:What was the.
Speaker C:What was the series?
Speaker C:Big Bang Theory.
Speaker C:She was in Katie Sackle.
Speaker C:Yeah, she was Katie Sackhoff as herself, but she was in a bathtub naked.
Speaker C:So, you know, there's a lot to.
Speaker A:You know what.
Speaker A:When you meet her bear, you tell her that.
Speaker C:First thing I'm going to bring up, when you were in the bathtub with Hallowell, Howard Wolowitz, completely nude.
Speaker C:How does that know?
Speaker C:I'm not going to ask that.
Speaker A:But, I mean, Sam's coming back because Sam is her friend, too.
Speaker A:So you could have.
Speaker B:No, no, we've had enough Sam for right now.
Speaker C:But Katie Sackhoff.
Speaker C:That's a huge.
Speaker C:Get Katie Sack off.
Speaker C:Yeah, she's.
Speaker C:I mean, Mandalorian just.
Speaker C:That's unbelievable.
Speaker C:Congratulations.
Speaker C:That's pretty.
Speaker B:We're.
Speaker B:We're pretty excited about it, and we hope that.
Speaker B:We hope that a lot of people are going to be excited about it, and they're going to come out and want to meet her.
Speaker B:And we're kind of hoping that the Mandalorian film trailer will drop because I'm 99% sure she's going to be in that film.
Speaker C:Yeah, 100%.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:I mean, there's no way that she's not.
Speaker B:And I'm kind of surprised that at this point, they haven't at least hinted or dropped some sort of, you know, teasers that there will be a Bo Katan spin off, because I don't know how there isn't.
Speaker A:Yeah, yeah, there.
Speaker B:At some point there will be.
Speaker B:I think so.
Speaker B:So, you know, she's always been the voice of Bo Katan in all the animated series and films and whatnot.
Speaker B:So, you know, we're super excited.
Speaker B:She'll do autographs, photographs.
Speaker B:She'll do a panel, pro photos.
Speaker B:There's something else that we're trying to work out, which would be very appealing for you guys.
Speaker B:I can't really share all the details yet, but we're gonna put together a VIP package too.
Speaker B:So yeah, we're very excited about this.
Speaker B:Should be a fun, fun weekend with her as our first guest announcement.
Speaker B:Not only but just the first.
Speaker A:Well, I think it's, I think it's fair to say that we're going to hear you have you back very soon for some more top notch information.
Speaker A:Listen, listen, Brock, you start going to other podcasts, so much enthusiasm you might be waiting at your house.
Speaker B:Now I got to go feed my kids.
Speaker B:So wrap this up.
Speaker D:All right.
